Fire Preparedness for Your Pet

A sticker like this can be posted on the door and windows of the home to notify firefighters of pets in the home.
The vast majority of fires occur unexpectedly leaving you and your loved ones endangered without warning. While most families have a fire emergency plan in place one aspect that can be overlooked is the well-being of their pets. One easy way to include your pet in fire emergency preparedness is by creating a disaster kit for them. Below are some items to pack in their kit in case of a fire:
- Water
- Extra Pet Food
- Important documents (i.e. proof of ownership, vaccination history, vet info)
- Animal specific first-aid supplies
- An extra set of basic pet supplies such as a collar, harness, and leash
Pet safety preparation can help reduce any potential negative effects a fire emergency can have on you and your pets.
