Preventing Water Damage to Your Vero Beach, FL Property When on Vacation
7/5/2021 (Permalink)
Many states and countries are beginning to reopen their doors to tourism for the first time in over a year, just in time for summer vacation! SERVPRO of Vero Beach would like to give you some helpful tips to reduce the likelihood of water damage to your home while you are away.
- Check for Leaks- Check pipes under sinks, your water heater, or anything resembling rust, cracks, or other damage. It’s important to check the seals around your windows and the exterior of your home as well. If you find any leakage, be sure to fix it prior to your departure.
- Inspect Appliances- Your dishwasher, washer/dryer, and refrigerator are all connected to your home by hoses. If these hoses are damaged in any way, they can cause major water damage to your home. Inspect your appliances and, if needed, replace hoses before leaving.
- Clean Your Gutters- Removing leaves and other debris from your gutters is an easy way to prevent backups due to improper drainage.
- Turn Off the Water- Turn off the water main and make sure the pipes are completely drained. Simply run the water and flush your toilet after you turn off the water.
- Have Someone Check on Your Home- If possible, ask a friend, neighbor, or family member to keep an eye on your property and notify you immediately if something goes wrong.
We hope, by following these tips, you can enjoy your vacation with the peace of mind knowing you have reduced the chances of a water loss occurring while you are away. Always remember, SERVPRO of Vero Beach is here to help. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for all you water remediation needs.
