Summer Fire Prevention Tips
7/14/2020 (Permalink)
Summer is known for picnics and good times outdoors. It’s the best time of year to enjoy camping, bonfires, fireworks and cookouts with family and friends. However, summer is also the time of year fire incidences increase. Below are some easy steps you can take to help protect your home and avoid fire damage.
Grilling Safety: Keep the grill away from the side of your home. Clean the grates and check fuel connections frequently. If you use a charcoal grill, never dispose of used charcoal until they have cooled completely.
Fireworks Safety: Always light fireworks in a safe location outside away from your home, garage, shed, grass or family.
Bonfire Safety: Make sure the area where you start your bonfire is a legal location. Never build a bonfire on a high-wind night. The pile shouldn't be bigger than 5'x5' to keep the flames containable and make sure to keep water nearby. After the bonfire is done, turn over the charred materials with metal shovels and rakes and douse the area with water.
